Kid's Foam Weapon Fighting Class Opens Soon!
Starting Saturday September 11th, our Saturday Kid's Class is taking an evolution to Weapon Fighting with high quality Foam weapons. With the addition of this class, the Little Tigers & Juniors can now participate in a truly complete martial art curriculum! Minneapolis Dojang's 9th Anniversary Party
When: Saturday June 19th from 6pm until...... late ^^
This year marks the 9th year that Chief Instructor Dylan Sirny began teaching Hwa Rang Do in the Twin Cities area. There has been a lot of growth in our program since the humble beginnings as a club to the full time intensity of our school plus our two affiliated clubs. And, while we have said this before, the martial art we practice is a wonderful and very unique system, I am always a believer that it is you the people who practice this art and strive toward its important ideals that make what we do as a community truly special. There is always so much to do in life and while there is a lot of positive, we all also deal with many kinds of distractions. So with all of the um/yang - the good, the bad, and the in-between - I thank and commend all of you who are committed to the sincere path of self-improvement, self-empowerment, and self-respect within the framework of our martial art. I hope you all gain real strength and the dignity of a Hwarang - a Flowering Knight!

Please help bring some food or other item to contribute to the pot-luck. And remember, there will be the FULL ROCK BAND setup for everyone to jam on. Bring your family & friends, the party is always a blast.

Midwest Hwa Rang Do Championships
The annual tournament with all dojangs from around the region was on April 23 & 24. Great day for all competitors - spirited performances and special recognition goes out to Instructor Alyssa Marlenee for sweeping First Place in ALL 6 weapon fighting divisions for Black Sashes and the Minneapolis Dojang Team for winning the Team Grand Champion Award for best overall finishes in men's & women's sparring, grappling, and weapon team fighting matches!!!

Buddy Week - February 8th - 13th!
Buddy week officially begins Monday the 8th through the rest of the week so, reserve those dates for yourself and ask friends & family to join you for this special week. Let them know that this is a week when we invite friends and family to get a good workout and learn material in a "seminar" style format. This Open House week is also a chance to meet with Instructor Sirny and learn practical effective and practicle techniques from one of the top martial arts teachers in the Twin Cities area. We Now Offer FREE Self-Defense Classes!
In the hopes of bettering our community, the Hwa Rang Do Minneapolis Academy is opening its doors and expertise to the general public for FREE Self-Defense Classes. While our regular curriclum has tons of effective self-defense techniques and concepts for our students, we feel it is important for everyone to learn something just in case the situation arises. Our school really wants the neighborhood and community to be a positive and safe place for all, so click the banner or go here for more information about this special public service.

2010 Minneapolis Dojang Calendar
As you all know we like trying to organize the year and all special events related to training and your involvement in them. So the master calendar for all major events and testings for the coming year is set and finished. Just like the past years, this will NOT change unless something major happens, so please take note of the BIG events like seminars, tournaments, parties and also take a moment to think about your testing hopes and plan out the dates you will need. There are copies on the front counter of the school or the online version is right here.

HOLIDAY PARTY & ALL SCHOOL DEMONSTRATION!
Our annual end of the year bash is coming up right around the corner. On Saturday December 19th starting at 6pm at Field Middle School we will be having a HUGE all school demonstration. All of our students will be participating in our biggest school event of the year. White Belts to Black Belts, Tiny Tigers to Little Tigers to Juniors to Adults to Instructors will be demonstration various aspects of our comprehensive martial art. All family and friends are welcome to attend - and after the demo, dinner, and video presentation, we will be heading back the dojang for a late night BASH! Karaoke, games, and LATE night party will finish out a great 2009. More details will be announced in class, so make sure you have the date set, and are ready!

Great job at the MUSA CHALLENGE!
Our annual tournament that was held on November 14th was a great success thanks to all of the enthusiastic participation from the students from the Minneapolis Dojang and other regional Hwa Rang Do schools and clubs. There were around 125 competitors, and the rings were filled with tons of action the whole day. Stay tuned for pictures and video clips of the days highlights.

Kuksanim is going to Madison, WI for Seminars!
8th Degree Black Sash in Hwa Rang Do, Grandmaster Taejoon Lee will be making his annual stop in Madison, WI for a weekend of intensive seminars. There will be TONS of training, and a large group of students from the Twin Cities area programs will be making the trip to train with Kuksanim. All the information is HERE ONLINE at the WI website, so get your registration forms in, work out your carpools, and we will be sure to train hard with Grandmaster Lee.

Annual Summer Seminars in LA!
One of the biggest events of the year within the Hwa Rang Do World is fast approaching! Open seminars for color belts & the general public, a world championship tournament, and special black sash conference for all instructors. There are a ton of things that will be going on, so make sure you work hard to prepare for it all. for more information just click the banner below.

(Also please note, due to the special nature of these events, and becuase all instructors will be attending our local Minneapolis dojang will be having our annual summer vacation during this time - only open workouts, no structured classes from July 23 to Aug 1, classes resume Monday August 3)

Hwa Rang Do Champions
In the biggest Hwa Rang Do / Tae Soo Do tournament of 2008, accumulative champions are acknowledged for their outstanding performances. The top finishers in ALL divisions (open hand forms, weapon forms, kick-punch-throw fighting, grappling, & weapon fighting) are tallied, and who ever won the most high places are the champions! This year, our very own Chief Instructor Dylan Sirny won the highest award for Best Black Sash. The tournament was filled with outstanding competitors and the matches were extremely tough. Congratulations to all who participated!

Hwa Rang Do World Tour - March 7 & 8
Chief Master Taejoon Lee is coming back to our very own Minneapolis Academy for a FULL weekend of seminars. We will be covering a TON of technical information, and also get a chance to be inspired by one of the true martial art masters in this world. BUDDY WEEK - February 2nd to 7th!
Our winter Buddy week has arrived! This is our annual open house event for the week for all people both adults and children interested in complete martial art training. Students will be bringing in their buddies and family members to taste what training is all about, but remember our doors are open to the general public as well. If you want some more info, check out our Buddy Week pages so you can attend the proper class. It is going to be a fun week of training for sure!

Day Classes Now Available
For everyone out there that is looking for a good workout during your lunch hour, or for those of you who have a night time working schedule - you can now get some good training in at the Hwa Rang Do Minneapolis Academy from Noon - 1:00pm every Tuesday and Thursday. This class will mirror our night time topics, which means that Tuesdays will be our "Stand-up Day" (basics, forms, weaponry, and kick/punch sparring) and Thursdays will be our "Ground Day" (techniques, kicking tests, self-defense, and grappling). Anyone looking to start training is welcome as well as all current adult students of any rank. If you have any questions just contact Instructor Sirny for additional information.

Tiny Tigers have arrived!
Due to the huge demand in our Little Tiger program we have expanded to create more opportunity for the youngest Tigers. From 4:30 to 5:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday there is now a "TINY TIGER" class for the 3 & 4 year olds. This is a great way for the smallest of Tigers to jump into the martial art world, with a very fun and energetic class. While similar to the Little Tiger program, the children will learn martial art moves along with listening and social group interaction skills - but always with A LOT OF FUN!!!

Please make sure to plan for all of the important dates related to special events and testings. As you know there is always a lot going on here so please catch the dates you need! Remember, this dojang master calendar will NOT change unless due to VERY special circumstances.

WInter Vacation is Over!
We are back from our winter vacation break, and all classes have resumed. Classes are rolling along strong so make sure you get back to your consistent training time and classes. This Saturday the 10th is grappling for the adult Noon class. See you all soon!

Annual Holiday Party and ALL SCHOOL DEMONSTRATION!
Our annual end of the year party is TONIGHT! Even though there is some snow, this can't stop us from having an awesome time here at the dojang with all family and friends. The party will go on! So please drive safe, and leave a little early so we can START at 6pm. Bring some food or drinks to share, and we will be around all night long for another great party.

THE MUSA CHALLENGE RETURNS!
Our annual interschool tournament hosted here at the Minneapolis Academy is coming up soon! Saturday November 8th is the day of the big event, and there will be divisions for ALL AGES AND ALL LEVELS of students. At least once a year it is important to step into the ring to test oneself and to face the exciting challenges with one's peers. Check out all the DETAILS ON THIS PAGE and make sure to Train hard!

BUDDY WEEK & OPEN HOUSE
A couple times a year our Academy opens its doors to the friends, family, and other guests for a week of great training. We teach a more open "seminar" style format of classes where guests can participate with their friends and family in the class. This is also a great opportunity for other people who are interested in training to come on in and get a taste of what Hwa Rang Do is all about. The classes will be open to EVERYONE - Little TIgers, Juniors, and Adults so check out the details by GOING HERE!

Awesome Seminars in WI!
It was great to see so many people down in Madison training together and with Master Lee. It was a wonderful weekend filled with great training and fun experiences with our martial art family from around the Midwest. Master Lee will be visiting us here in Minneapolis next winter, so keep an eye out for the info.

The annual seminars with Master Lee are taking place again down in Madison in the coming weeks. We will be closed here in Minneapolis so we can also participate in the great training with our Midwest brothers and sisters. School Closed Labor Day Weekend
The dojang will be closed for Labor Day Weekend - classes resume on Tuesday.

Summer Seminars in Los Angeles, CA
The annual summer seminars, tournament, and Black Sash Conference marking the 48th anniversary of Hwa Rang Do's return to public instruction are almost here! July 25 - August 3 will sure be filled with many exciting events. We will have a team of students and instructors going out for the training and celebration. Anniversary Party Saturday June 21st!
Another year has come marking the time that Instructor Sirny first began teaching here in the twin cities area after his training at our headquarters with Supreme Grandmaster. The dojang has moved quite a ways since that time 7 years ago, and it is time to celebrate! At 6pm everyone is welcome to a pot-luck gathering. We will watch some HRD videos and also party the night away. Bring something to share and we will see you then. Also, we wish to give a BIG Thank You to all students and families for your support of our school over the years!!!

Special Seminars with Chief Master Lee - GREAT JOB!
The seminars with Master Lee were awesome!!! Definitely the best set of sessions yet. It was amazing having the dojang so packed with people the whole weekend. The techniques and training were solid, and it was nice to see so many people expand their vision of what is really possible with dedicated training in our martial art. Thank you Master Lee for a great weekend!

November 2007 - Holiday Party Coming
On Saturday December 15, 2007 our annual Holiday Party and all school demonstration will take place at 6pm. All members of the dojang as well as the University Club and Seagate Club will participate in demonstrating all the aspects of Tae Soo Do and Hwa Rang Do for family and friends. Everyone is invited to this exciting demonstration. There will also be a pot-luck dinner and party after the demo, See you there!

November 12, 2007 - Great Tournament
Wow! What an awesome tournament on Saturday. We are very proud of all competitors as all students really stepped up to face the challenges. The divisions were packed with incredible action - great forms, sparring, especially grappling, and of course the weapon fighting. To see so many people compete with so much spirit and strength was wonderful to see. Keep training hard!

October 29, 2007 - MUSA Challenge Interschool Tournament!
On Saturday November 10, 2007 a interschool tournament will be held at the Minneapolis Dojang for all Tae Soo Do and Hwa Rang Do students. Everyone is welcome, from any of the schools or clubs that can make it. It is sure to be a fun competition, and make sure to prepare for all of the grappling and weapon fighting divisions! October 29, 2007 - Halloween Party
Thanks to all of the TGT and parents that helped make our annual Halloween Party a great success. The haunted dojang sure scared some kids and adults, and it was nice to see everyone have such a fun time. See you next year!

October 1, 2007 - Halloween Party Coming!

August 10, 2007 - Awesome Time in LA!
The students from the Minneapolis Academy did an awesome job competing in the World Championships in LA this year. We are very proud of how well you represented our school, and of course on you performances. The seminars were again extremely educational for the color belts, and all of the instructors trained hard with Dojoonim and Master Lee from 9am to Midnight the whole week of the Black Sash conference. Make sure to plan for next year as we will be heading to LA again!

Remember there are seminars in Los Angeles, CA with Dojoonim and Chief Master Taejoon Lee coming up at the end of July. The Hwa Rang Do World Championships will also occur along with the annual Black Sash Conference. Quite a week of HUGE events for people all over the world.

June Notes:
Congratulations to Toma Kelley-Pegg and Kristine Meyer for graduating the Tae Soo Do program and obtaining their black belts. Quite an accomplishment and we all look forward to your further development in Hwa Rang Do. Great job on your demonstrations!
It was also a blast at our anniversary party! The party lasted all night, and it was great to have so many people and families celebrate in our martial community. Thanks for all of your support and involvement -and we all look forward to many more years to come!

BUDDY WEEK
This week, June 28-23 is Buddy Week. Bring a friend to our beginner classes and see what training is all about. All of our beginner classes are open to the public. Students should bring a friend, or if you are interested and haven't trained before just come on in!

Juniors (ages 7-13) - Monday and Wednesday 5-6pm
Little Tigers (ages 3-6) - Tuesday and Thursday 5:15-5:45pm
Adults (age 13 and up) - Tuesday and Thursday 6-7pm

June 16, 2007 - 6TH ANNIVESARY PARTY Saturday June 23rd!
Another year has passed since our school has been open. Our growth as a school has been amazing and it is great to see all the solid training that people are doing. So many students have progressed so far over the past year, so let's party! 6pm Saturday June 23rd will be a Black Belt Graduation Ceremony/Demonstration followed by our pot-luck party. Everyone is welcome so come on by the dojang to enjoy the fun!

April 29, 2007 - Great Tournament!
All who competed down in Madison did an awesome job. The Minneapolis students had great spirit and awesome performances. In fact our school ended up with 75% of the trophies - WOW! Keep training hard, and push yourselves further!

March 25, 2007 - Hwa Rang Do Midwest Championship is coming April 28th!
Coming up on April 28th, the annual Midwest tournament will be held in Madison, WI. The Minneapolis Academy will of course be bringing a big contingency of students and spectators to the events. Registration details will be announced soon, but please mark the date and train hard for the event. Last year the Minneapolis Academy did an awesome job, where students of all ages won many trophies in all the divisions. It was also wonderful to see our team win the Team Trophy in sparring and we only hope all of you face your fears and do your best! Get ready for another fun bus ride too!

March 6, 2007 - Awesome Seminars!
The special seminars with Master Lee were packed with not only some great technical details, but it was awesome to see so many people training so hard with Master Lee's inspirational instruction. All the snow couldn't hold back the action, and we look forward to next year when Master Lee returns. These were certainly some of the best seminars ever - great job to everyone who participated, and Daedonhee Kamsahamnida Kwanjangnim!!!

January 22, 2007 - World Tour, Special Seminars

December 20, 2006 - Great Holiday Party!!!
AWESOME JOB! To everyone who participated in the Holiday Party demonstration. It was great to see all of you step onto the mat and put on a solid performance for all of your family and friends. The air was electric with everyone under the dojang roof, cheering and yelling with such enthusiasm.

Also we want to congratulate Mr. Preston Packard and Ms. Alyssa Marlenee for going through their Black Sash ceremony. You have put in a ton of training and have stepped up into this special circle of HRD practitioners. Great job on reaching the a nexus in our martial art journey. And of course, congratulations to Rick McKenzie, Russ Ritenour, and Sarah Minette for graduating the Tae Soo Do program. We all look forward to your continued journey through the larger world of Hwa Rang Do.

November 15, 2006 - Holiday Party Coming.....

November 12, 2006 - School Closed During Thanksgiving
The Hwa Rang Do Minneapolis Academy will be closed for Thanksgiving weekend - Wed through Sun the 22nd to 25th. Please travel safely and enjoy and appreciate the time with your friends and family. Training at the dojang resumes Monday the 27th.

October 15, 2006 - Halloween Party Coming Soon!
The Haunted Dojang will return! Make sure to invite your friends as this Halloween Party is one not to miss. Saturday October 28th at 7pm starts the festivities. Wear your costume as there will be prizes given for the best junior and Little Tiger costume. Don't forget all the games, food, and FUN! See you there.

September 15, 2006 - World Tour Goes to Madison, WI

The annual summer seminars in Los Angeles, CA are here. From July 21-30 there will be intensive training for color belts and the public, a big tournament for all HRD & TSD practitioners, followed by a Black Sash Conference for instructors and masters. May 5, 2006 - SPECIAL WORKSHOP WITH DOJOONIM!!!
Along with Instructor Sirny's wedding, on Saturday May 20th there will be a special Hwa Rang Do workshop with the Founder of our art, Supreme Grandmaster Dr. Joo Bang Lee! This will truly be a special training session and the details will cover use of opponent's power through effective joint manipulation and an introduction to the healing and internal aspects of Hwa Rang Do. April 30, 2006 - Awesome Job:
We wanted to congratulated all of you who participated in the tournament in Madison. Students from the Minneapolis dojang and U of MN college club did an outstanding job! The results speak for themselves ^^ Let's keep working hard so we can go back in the busses and compete in brotherhood again. The leadership at the dojang is very proud of everyone's efforts, and it was great to see so many trophies being brought back home - especially that Team Sparring trophy!

April 18, 2006 - More Tournament Details:
A little more than a week to go until the tournament down in Madison, and there are a couple announcements to finish things off and get everyone prepared. So..... here you go:

1) You CAN still register for the tournament, just fill out the forms and hand them in ASAP! Also if you want to go to the dinner after the tournament please register and pay this week if you haven't already.

2) There are still some spaces left on the bus and we want to get them filled. If you are looking for a ride contact Instructor Sirny right away as these final spots will go on a first come first serve basis! Join the MN road trip!

4) For final preparations there will be a couple adjustments to the schedule:
Saturday April 22nd: NO TESTING!!!
10am: Juniors Class, bring armor
11am: Adult Forms Practice, bring weapons
Noon: Adult Sparring Practice
1pm: Open Tournament Practice

Thursday April 27th: Final Tournament Practice & Pep Rally!!!
ALL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WELCOME
5:00pm: Open Warmups & Practice
6:00pm: Forms
7:00pm: Sparring
8:00pm Pep Rally (will not last long15-30 minutes)

March 29, 2006 - New Website Launches:
We hope that the new website helps you learn more about our Academy, and that all you students out there love all the new features we are brining you. Have fun with them and watch out for some ecards!

March 28, 2006 - Tournament Registration Material:
Wow, the Midwest Hwa Rang Do Championships are right around the corner. Please check your email and at the dojang as all the forms and information you need have been passed out. We are also preparing to charter a bus to travel down to Madison for a big road trip. If you are interested in this please let Instructor Sirny know if you want a seat.
